Former Site of the Xiangdong (Pingxiang) Soviet Government
The former site of the Xiangdong (Pingxiang) Soviet Government is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.
The former site of the “Xiangdong (Pingxiang) Soviet Government” is located in Shiwalao Village, Dajiangbian, Xinquan Township, Luxi County. Built in 1909, it has a history of nearly 100 years and was originally the ancestral hall of the Liu family in Shiwalao. The front wall still bears the inscription “Soldiers don’t fight soldiers, the poor don’t fight the poor.” The total area covers more than 2,000 square meters. It was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit of Luxi County in 2006.
According to historical records, the “Xiangdong (Pingxiang) Soviet Government” was established in the winter of 1930 and later merged into the Xianggan Provincial Soviet Government, collectively referred to as the Xianggan Revolutionary Base Area. In 1930, the Matian area was the first to establish seven township Soviet governments: Matian, Dajiangbian, Shenzi, Shixi, Yangxi, Caijia, and Xiongling. At that time, the Independent First Division of the Xianggan Provincial Soviet Government and the Xiangdong Independent Division were stationed here in 1930, leaving behind many valuable historical traces. The division was successively commanded by comrades Liu Peiyun, Li Tingyu, and Xiao Ke. The famous “New Year’s Eve Battle of Xinquan” was planned here.
Upon entering the site, a portrait of Chairman Mao hangs on the front wall of the main hall, and the walls on both sides are inlaid with over one-meter-long panels introducing the Soviet government. The entire introduction is divided into six sections: “Preface,” “Struggling in Hardship,” “The Savior – the Communist Party Arrives,” “Armed Establishment of the Soviet Government,” “Always Remember Them,” and “The Chinese People Have Stood Up.” The wall panels contain precious materials including text descriptions, historical records, portraits, poetry, and map illustrations. On both sides of the hall are five display cabinets each. The cabinets house currency issued by the Central Bank of the Chinese Soviet Republic, red five-pointed star children's armbands, as well as weapons such as sabers used by the Red Army to fight the enemy, along with clothing, bronze kettles, and porcelain bowls used by the Red Army. There are also memorial inscriptions created in honor of fallen soldiers. All these relics are well preserved.
