Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower in Jiankou

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower in Jiankou is a cultural relic protection unit of Luxi County and also a base for patriotic education.

In the spring of 1929, the Party assigned Liu Zhendong, the Secretary of the Pingxiang County Committee, and Lin Haoran (a college student from Linjiafang, Luxi), to go deep into the Xuanfeng–Jingkou area to develop underground organizations and lead the peasant revolution. They successively recruited progressive locals such as Li Zhiqun, Wen Shuxian, --, and Li Yumo into the underground Party organization.

In the autumn of 1930, Peng Dehuai and Huang Gonglue led their troops through Xuanfeng, helping the local people establish a Soviet government in Jingkou and mobilizing them to “overthrow the local tyrants and distribute land.” At that time, Xiang Chairman Chang Mianfu, Red Guards Captain Lin Shufang, and Food Committee member Huang Yuqing led the masses in struggles against the major landlord Peng Zuhui and his son. Influenced by the revolutionary situation in Jingkou, nearby villages successively established Soviet governments, carried out grain and fund raising activities, and saw active mass enlistment in the army, with the revolutionary flame burning ever more fiercely. Soon after, the Red Army advanced into Fujian, and the local tyrants and evil gentry made a comeback, joining forces with —— to slaughter revolutionary masses. Xuanfeng and Jingkou were shrouded in a climate of white terror. Due to the disparity in strength between enemy and us, the Soviet governments in various areas were all destroyed. Huang Shihong, Chairman of Piantian Township, and underground Party member Wen Shuxian were successively killed by the enemy. Chang Mianfu, Lin Shufang, Huang Yuqing, and other comrades were captured by the enemy due to betrayal by informers and were soon brutally murdered. In addition, the enemy also killed 32 other revolutionary comrades, including Chen Xiulin and Li Chunmao.

In the autumn of 1951, the People's Government of the Ninth District of Xuanfeng decided to build a Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower at the site where the 32 martyrs had perished — in Jiankou, Xuanfeng. In 1998, the county government allocated funds for renovation and maintenance. It has now become an important base for revolutionary tradition education and patriotic education.
