Former Site of the Red Army Hospital at Matigang

The former site of the Red Army Hospital at Matigang is a cultural relic protection unit of Xunwu County.

The former site of the Red Army hospital is located at Matigang, southwest of Xunwu County. Originally built in 1917, it was initially a hospital operated by a Christian church. In May 1930, the Fourth Red Army arrived in Xunwu, took over the hospital, reorganized it as the Fourth Red Army Hospital, and turned it into the central hospital serving Anyuan, Pingyuan, and Xunwu. In June of the same year, when the Fourth Red Army left Xunwu, it was handed over to the local government and became a local Red Army hospital.

The site is a two-story building with an earth-and-wood structure and lime-washed walls. It is 24.7 meters long from north to south and 10.15 meters wide from east to west. The building faces southwest with its back to the northeast. The second floor originally served as a church and in May 1930 functioned as the quarters for the Fourth Red Army's Instructional Brigade. The first floor housed the outpatient department of the hospital, with the southern room used as a consultation and injection room, the northern room as a pharmacy, and the rest as offices and living quarters. In 1990, the site was demolished to make way for the construction of the Party School teaching building. In 2003, the Xunwu County Party Committee and County Government allocated funds to rebuild the site according to its original appearance.

On April 6, 1986, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit by the Xunwu County People's Government. In March 2013, it was listed as part of the seventh batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Council.

The protected area extends 10 meters outward from all sides of the site, while the construction control zone extends 20 meters outward from the protected area.
