Yungai Peak Scenic Area is located 5 kilometers north of Xunwu County, covering an area of 4.8 square kilometers, with the mountain summit at an elevation of 1,077.6 meters. The area features high mountains often shrouded in ever-changing clouds, dense forests, and flowing green waters. With its lofty and majestic terrain frequently veiled in mist, it is called Yungai Peak (Cloud-Covered Summit), and was historically honored as one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Xunwu.” According to county records, the mountain boasts eight scenic spots: Centipede Spitting Pearls, Spirit Turtle Listening to Scriptures, Lotus Holding Fruit, Jade Screen Brocade Barrier, Salt Fish Reborn, Enlightenment Cave Rock, Fierce Tiger Nodding, and Tea Tree with Red Blossoms. In front of the grand and serene Mahavira Hall stands a small shrine named “Place of Meditation,” an ideal spot for spiritual retreat. The entire Yungai Peak area is rustic, tranquil, and rich in pleasant scenery, attracting visitors throughout history and serving as a favorite place for scholars and literati to compose poetry and paint. A Qing Dynasty poet, Wu Zhizhang, once wrote: “Though the mountain ends, the snow persists; the hillslopes seem to float midair. The path leads beyond layered peaks, the sky appears within arm’s reach. Time’s early or late, none can tell; only the hazy air is visible. Laughter shared with those who came—now I wish to ride the wind.”
