The Tomb of Pan Ren

The Tomb of Pan Ren is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangxi Province.

The Tomb of Pan Ren is located on a small hill to the southwest of Shangche Village, Jitan Town, Xunwu County. In 2007, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province.

According to the Xunwu County Annals, Pan Ren (circa – 1279), courtesy name Jianhong, was originally from Henan. He followed Wen Tianxiang, the loyalist Chancellor of the Southern Song Dynasty, in resisting the Yuan invaders. During the final years of the Southern Song, he escorted the emperor southward and was appointed in the second year of the Jingyan era (1278) as the Grand General for Escorting the Emperor on Campaigns. Later, he was promoted to Minister of War. After the fall of the Southern Song, he went into seclusion on Xiangshan Mountain in Xunwu and became the founding ancestor of the Pan family clan in the region. His tomb faces south and covers an area of 50 square meters. The tombstone is constructed from red sandstone slabs. This is a secondary burial site, and due to long-term erosion, the inscriptions have become blurred—only the characters “Ministry of War” (兵部) are faintly visible. The tomb holds significant historical value for the study of the migration history of the Pan family and the characteristics of Qing Dynasty tomb structures.
