Datong Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Datong Temple is located in a secluded mountain valley on Ximu Ridge, Xinjian Village, An Town, southeast of the county seat, and is about 6.5 kilometers from National Highway 323. Originally named Datong Yuan or Datong An, its founding date is unknown, and it has collapsed and been rebuilt multiple times. The current temple was reconstructed in March 1998 and includes structures such as the Mahavira Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, and monks' quarters. It features blue tiles and upturned eaves, with its roof adorned with colorful porcelain decorations such as “two dragons playing with a pearl” and “carp.” A winding path of 333 stone-cement steps leads up to the temple from the foot of the hill, and a ancestral spirit pagoda stands atop the hillside behind and to the right of the main hall.

Legend has it that the immortal Xu Xianjun once chased and slew a flood dragon here, and a young dragon was also killed while looking back for its mother—hence the name Ximu Ridge (literally “Ridge of the Missing Mother”). The Taoist master Ge Hong of the modern era once refined elixirs in these mountains. Built along the Zhang River and nestled against a mountain ridge that resembles a sleeping lion, with surrounding ridges that look like five monkeys celebrating spring, Datong Temple is encircled by verdant peaks, babbling streams, and enjoys fresh air and a tranquil environment. Standing at the temple gate, visitors can gaze at the undulating green mountains in the distance; looking down, they’ll see a picturesque array of village houses, curling wisps of cooking smoke, lush fields of vegetables and fruit, and the fragrance of rice and beans—a beautiful rural scene unfolding before their eyes. Especially noteworthy is the Zhang River, which winds past the foot of the mountain in front of the temple. With its wide surface, gentle currents, and clear waters, it’s an ideal spot for boating, playing in the water, and enjoying spring outings.
