Site of the Dayu Reorganization

The site of the Dayu Reorganization is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The site of the reorganization of the remaining forces of the Nanchang Uprising in Dayu is located at Nan Kangxiang Ancestral Hall within the compound of the County Supply and Marketing Cooperative at No. 13 Jianshe Road, Yuxi Street, Dayu County. On October 26, 1927, Zhu De and Chen Yi led over 800 remaining troops of the Nanchang Uprising to Dayu County, establishing their headquarters at Nan Kangxiang Ancestral Hall.

To preserve this small revolutionary force, Zhu De and Chen Yi spent a week in Dayu reorganizing the troops. They first re-registered Party and League members and established Party branches to strengthen grassroots Party work. For ease of marching and combat, the mere 800 troops were combined into a single column, using the designation “Fifth Column of the National Revolutionary Army.” Zhu De, under the alias Wang Kai, served as commander, Chen Yi as political instructor, and Wang Erlie as chief of staff. To address supplies, the troops borrowed over ten thousand yuan from the Dayu County Chamber of Commerce. The reorganization in Dayu laid a solid political and organizational foundation for subsequent training in Shangbao and the advance into southern Hunan.

The site of the reorganization of the remaining forces of the Nanchang Uprising in Dayu was built in the late Qing Dynasty, covering an area of approximately 160 square meters. On July 7, 2005, the Site of the Nanchang Uprising Troops’ Reorganization in Dayu was listed in the Ganzhou Municipal Register of Immovable Cultural Relics. In 2007, the Dayu County Party Committee and County Government allocated funds for its renovation. Central, provincial, and municipal leaders, experts, and scholars frequently visit the site for tours and research. On July 18, 2011, the Site of the Nanchang Uprising Troops’ Reorganization in Dayu was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Dayu County.
