Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Military Meeting

The former site of the Red Fourth Army military meeting is located in the Catholic Church on Preschool Street in the old town of Dayu County. On January 23, 1929, over 3,600 soldiers of the Red Fourth Army, who had broken through the siege from Jinggangshan and came to southern Jiangxi for guerrilla warfare, captured the county seat of Dayu. The Front Committee office was set up inside the Catholic Church. That morning, the Front Committee of the Red Fourth Army held a meeting of all company-level and higher-ranking officers at Lv’s House on Beinei Road, Yuxi Street, in the old town, where the Front Committee Secretary Mao Zedong delivered an important speech.

In the afternoon, Mao Zedong and Zhu De held a military-civilian assembly at the riverbank under Zhongshan Bridge, distributing Red Fourth Army proclamations and confiscated property from local tyrants to impoverished residents. Inspired by the Red Army’s propaganda, dozens of young miners from the Xihuashan mining area joined the Red Army.

That evening, the Front Committee of the Red Fourth Army held a military meeting at the Catholic Church in the old town, attended by all company-level and higher-ranking officers of the army.
