Former Site of the Red Fifth Army Headquarters in Zhouwu

The former site of the Red Fifth Army Headquarters in Zhouwu is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former campsite of the Red Fifth Army is located at the Zhouwu Ancestral Hall in Zhouwu Village, Xincheng Town, Dayu County. In late January 1929, over 500 soldiers of the Red Fifth Army, led by Peng Dehuai and Teng Daiyuan, broke through the Kuomintang forces' "joint encirclement" of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base from both Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. After breaking out from Dafen, they moved toward southern Jiangxi and arrived in Xincheng, Dayu on February 9. That night, they camped in Zhouwu Village, which had hundreds of households, on the southern bank of the Zhang River. Around 1 a.m., they were suddenly attacked by four battalions of pursuing enemy troops. Peng Dehuai ordered the troops to quickly move toward Xinfeng County.

The Zhouwu Ancestral Hall was originally built during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. It faces east and is a brick-and-wood structure with a tiled roof, consisting of a front hall, central courtyard, and rear hall, covering an area of over 600 square meters. On December 18, 2004, it was designated as a municipal-level patriotic education base. On July 7, 2005, it was included in the Ganzhou Municipal Register of Immovable Cultural Relics. On July 18, 2011, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Dayu County.
