Jiangxi Hakka Museum
The Jiangxi Hakka Museum consists of the Hakka Cultural City, the Celebrity Park, and the Folklore Park (one city and two parks). The scenic area is located in the southern new district of Ganzhou County on the banks of the Gong River. It organically integrates the long-standing Hakka culture with the beautiful natural scenery, featuring a prominent theme, profound artistic conception, and vibrant colors. It is an ecological and cultural destination that combines flood control, sightseeing, leisure, sports, entertainment, and other functions.
“One City” refers to the Hakka Cultural City, which is situated southeast of Ganzhou County, bordered by the winding Gong River to the south, facing Yangxian Ridge—the retreat of Yang Jiu-pin, the patriarch of Feng Shui—and overlooking the famous peak of southern Jiangxi, Fengshan Mountain. With mountains, water, and the city complementing each other, it is a geomantically blessed site. The overall design of the Cultural City is square on the outside and round on the inside. The architectural style not only inherits traditional cultural concepts but also incorporates rich local cultural characteristics. It serves as a venue for sacrificial ceremonies, cultural exhibitions, commercial activities, and leisure entertainment. It is currently the largest and most comprehensive Hakka cultural complex in China, often described as a grand showcase of Hakka culture and a “spiritual home” for the Hakka people. The Hakka Cultural City was one of the key sites visited during the 19th World Hakka Conference, the main venue for the China (Ganzhou) Hakka Culture Festival, and the main venue for the 3rd World Hakka Gathering. The city includes major attractions such as the Hakka Ancestral Hall, Taiji Square, Yanggong Temple, Art Corridor, Hakka Museum, and Folk Street.
“Two Parks” refer to the Celebrity Park and the Folklore Park, nestled against green hills and embraced by the jade-like river. The ancient trees along the riverbanks are lush and towering, creating exceptionally beautiful natural scenery. The project focuses on the development and preservation of hundreds of ancient banyan trees along the ten-mile riverside greenway of the county town. Each ancient tree serves as both a scenic highlight and an open space, with brick, stone, or anti-corrosion wood paving at the base, adorned with stone or wooden benches for public rest, sightseeing, and recreation. While preserving the dense riverside vegetation, the park has extensively planted valuable flowers and plants such as cherry blossoms, camellias, and azaleas, forming an ecological park dominated by ancient banyans and cherry blossoms, with multi-layered scenery of high, medium, and low foliage, offering year-round flower and leaf appreciation. The abundance of ancient banyans and cherry blossoms is said to be the best in the country. The park combines flood control, bank protection, sightseeing, and recreation. Its winding slopes, naturally undulating terrain, meandering paths, and graceful plants create a landscape that feels both man-made and naturally divine. Lush greenery all year round, a serene and fresh environment, and during blooming seasons, the park is filled with the romantic charm of cherry blossoms in full bloom, vibrant colors reflected against the backdrop of green hills and murmuring streams. It offers visual delight, recreational opportunities, fun, and relaxation, forming a uniquely beautiful scenic attraction.
The Celebrity Park stretches 3,265 meters in length and 50–70 meters in width, covering an area of 240,000 square meters. It mainly features “One Ancestor, Four Gardens, Two Halls, One Pavilion, One Site, and One Mansion,” namely the Guanying Ancestor Garden, the Masters Garden, the Distinguished Officials Garden, the Local Sages Garden, the Number One Scholar Garden, the Generals Hall, the Jinshi Hall, the Wenchang Pavilion, the former site of the Jiangxi Political Cadre Training Corps, and the Left Temple Assistant Mansion. These elements showcase the images of historical figures from various dynasties in southern Jiangxi, blending the region’s ancient and modern cultural history while fully demonstrating the unique and profound Hakka cultural heritage of the area. The park pathways are paved with traditional craftsmanship using blue bricks, blue tiles, and pebbles. Landscape and street lamps are designed based on the Tiancun Flower Lanterns, a unique craft of southern Jiangxi, creating a strong Hakka cultural atmosphere.
The Folklore Park extends 2,020 meters from east (Wentan Water Plant) to west (connecting to the Celebrity Park), with a width of 30–65 meters and a total land area of 130,000 square meters. The total investment is approximately 120 million yuan. Building upon the basic style and cultural foundation of the Celebrity Park, it emphasizes four key features: ecology, simplicity, culture, and distinctive plant landscapes. The park primarily highlights Hakka folk culture, integrating with the natural embankment of the Gong River to form a unified ecological landscape of mountains, water, and gardens. From west to east, the park is designed with themed areas including the Children’s Garden, the Farming and Literacy Garden, the Rural Charm Garden, the Qijia Garden, and the Merit Garden. The plant landscaping follows the principle of “cherry blossoms as the main focus, combined with multiple flowers, three-dimensional planting, and seasonal scenery,” with over 30 varieties of cherry blossoms interspersed among other plants. This creates another stunning scenic attraction along the county’s Gong River waterfront.
