The Huangsha Ancient Temple is situated at the end of Danyuan Reservoir in Huanglong Village, Maodian Town. The temple is surrounded by mountains on its east, west, and north sides, with undulating high peaks and a strategically rugged terrain. Lush forests surround the area, offering fresh and tranquil air in an exceptionally serene environment. To the south lies the reservoir, making it truly a picturesque place of beautiful mountains and clear waters.

The Huangsha Ancient Temple was first built in the sixth year of the Wanli era during the Ming Dynasty, boasting a history of several hundred years. In the early days of the revolution, it served as the command center for the Red Tenth Army led by Peng Dehuai in their campaign to capture Ganzhou. General Peng Dehuai’s residence made significant contributions to the revolutionary cause, achieving indelible meritorious feats. Due to historical reasons, the temple was destroyed three times. It wasn’t until 1996, under the correct guidance of the Party’s policies and in response to the requests of many Buddhists, that the Huanglong Ancient Temple Reconstruction Council was established in October of the same year. After extensive research by council members, consultations with senior elders, and incorporating modern technological advancements, careful design and planning led to groundbreaking in October 1997. After two months of hard work, construction was completed in December. In the following years, through the dedicated efforts of council members, the temple has now been largely renovated. The total investment exceeded 30,000 yuan, all of which was donated by devotees.

The newly built Huangsha Ancient Temple not only showcases the unique features of ancient architecture but also embodies the essence of modern scientific construction. It stands solemnly and majestically at its original site, welcoming eminent monks, Zen masters, lay practitioners, notable figures, devotees, and religious believers from all over with its majestic presence and graceful beauty.

Inside the Great Buddha’s Hall, dozens of Buddhist statues of various sizes are enshrined, all appearing vivid and imposing. On the left side of the hall hangs an antique yet uniquely designed large bell, whose sound is loud and resonant with long echoes. On the right side of the hall is placed a traditional long-shaped large drum. At dawn and dusk, the morning bell and evening drum serve to awaken those chasing fame and fortune, while the chants of Buddha call back those lost in the sea of suffering.

The four side rooms on either side of the Great Buddha’s Hall are spacious, bright, warm in winter and cool in summer, with fresh air. They are equipped with over ten sleeping berths, complete with mosquito nets and tableware, providing convenient accommodation for pilgrims and tourists who come from afar, as well as for those seeking vacation, leisure, or meditation.

Currently, all the caregivers and democratically managed staff of Huanglong Ancient Temple welcome visitors with the highest quality service and the most devoted spirit of selfless dedication.

Luo Yaohu, born in 1942 in Maodian Town, Gan County, Jiangxi Province, currently serves as a representative of the county Buddhist association.

In January 1998, Mr. Luo Yaohu was enlightened by the Sixth Patriarch and became the fifth-generation disciple through an incarnated transmission. Later, through his master’s spiritual guidance and years of personal practice, he developed the ability to use energy to treat rare and complex illnesses for humans and even all things, arranged by fate.

Over the years of engaging in Buddhist activities, Mr. Luo Yaohu has been in close communion with a great soul and a noble Buddhist spirit, refining his character and diligently studying Buddhist scriptures while continuously exploring Buddhist culture. Especially since the reform and opening-up, in the face of the ruins left by turmoil in temples, he relied closely on the local government and the broad Buddhist community. Through extensive discussions, fundraising, and donations, he restored the damaged Buddhist sacred sites. In managing the temple, he wholeheartedly implemented the principle of “it is people who propagate the Dharma, and it is people who deliver sentient beings,” enabling Buddhist culture to play a positive role in social progress and the improvement of public quality. He also helped liberate many believers from the superstition of merely “burning incense and kowtowing to pray for Buddha’s protection,” transforming faith in Buddhism into a pursuit of purifying the soul and cultivating virtue. Through a series of Buddhist promotional activities, Huangsha Ancient Temple actively implements the Party’s religious management policies, allowing the monastic disciples to engage in exchanges and communication with friends across the nation and even the world through acts of merit, charity, and poverty relief, helping people truly understand and learn about Huangsha Ancient Temple.
