Ganzhou Standard Clock Tower

The Standard Clock Tower is situated at the street center of the intersection between Yangming Road and Heping Road in the downtown area. It was constructed in 1952 and completed on May 1, 1953. As this area was the city center at the time, a Western-style clock tower was built in a prominent spot. It is known as the Standard Clock because it features timekeeping clocks on all four sides. The tower has six floors and stands 20 meters high, making it the tallest building in Ganzhou’s urban area at that time. For over 20 years afterward, it was regarded as the symbol of Ganzhou City.

The Ganzhou Standard Clock was built in 1953 and has long been an iconic structure in the old city district. “With the establishment of the world’s largest Harmony Bell Tower in Ganzhou, this 57-year-old building seems to be fading from the historical stage. The Standard Clock remains inactive, having stopped working altogether.”
