Guijiaowei Park

Originally called Guimaojiao, Guijiaowei is located beneath Bashiting in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. On both sides of Guijiaowei flow two beautiful and mysterious rivers — the Zhang River and the Gong River. Emerging from towering mountains and ranges, they pass through gorges and rapids, leaping across countless valleys and ridges as they meander forward like two mighty dragons, encircling the eastern and western sides of the ancient city of Ganzhou. They converge at the tail of the turtle-shaped landform to form the Gan River, the mother river of the people of Jiangxi. Ganzhou was once referred to as the “Floating Prefecture.” When viewed from above, the ancient city of Ganzhou resembles a giant divine turtle floating on the water’s surface, with its southern gate as the head and its northern gate as the turtle’s tail. Hence, the confluence of the Zhang and Gong Rivers is called “Guijiaowei” (Turtle’s Tail). Legend has it that the ancestors of the Hakka people, during their southward migration along the Gan River, landed here at Guijiaowei. Therefore, this site holds special commemorative significance for the Hakka people. In honor of this, the people of Ganzhou built the Hakka Ancestors’ Southward Migration Monument at Guijiaowei, erected the Hakka Ancestors’ Southward Migration Cauldron, and developed numerous tourism and leisure facilities. Today, Guijiaowei has become an important recreational spot for locals and a must-visit scenic attraction for tourists from home and abroad.
