In Luojia Lane, Hepantang, Ganzhou City, there lies a century-old courtyard tucked away in a quiet alley. It is known to every older resident of Ganzhou — the largest Qing Dynasty architectural complex in the city — the Wei Family Courtyard.

The grand scale of the courtyard’s layout still retains its former majesty. It stands as a precious family architectural complex rich in cultural significance, holding great academic value for the study of residential architecture in Ganzhou.

All buildings in the Wei Family Courtyard feature water-ground blue bricks for their firewalls, with carefully selected beams and exquisitely carved wooden structures, making them the essence of Ganzhou’s ancient architecture. The courtyard spans across three streets — Luojia Lane, Hepantang, and Ciguling. With numerous rooms, courtyards, and passageways inside, each building is interconnected by tiled corridors.

From the outside, the houses of the Wei Family Courtyard appear as one large integrated structure, but inside they are relatively independent yet intricately connected. The courtyard also houses an exquisite small garden. The entire interior features deep courtyards, winding corridors, varying sizes, and carved beams and painted rafters, creating an extremely luxurious, maze-like atmosphere.
