Jiang Jingguo’s Former Residence in Ganzhou

Jiang Jingguo’s Former Residence in Ganzhou is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

After arriving in southern Jiangxi in 1939, Jiang Jingguo established his official residence here. From 1940 to 1945, he and his wife both lived here. Other visitors included Bai Chongxi and Jiang Jingguo’s younger brother, Jiang Weiguo. The residence is nestled against a mountain and beside water, boasting a beautiful environment. It is a small villa built in the style of Western architecture, with a magnolia tree in the courtyard that was personally planted by Mr. Jiang Jingguo in 1941. Inside the former residence, there is a wooden plaque inscribed with the words “Meritorious in Literature and Education,” which Mr. Jiang Jingguo gifted to Ouyang Zhen from Anyuan County, Jiangxi. Ouyang Zhen had donated ten thousand yuan to build Anyuan Middle School, and Jiang Jingguo, recognizing his generosity, wrote and presented him with this plaque. The “New Southern Jiangxi Family Precepts” were written by Mr. Jiang Jingguo during his time in Ganzhou, modeled after the structure and rhythm of the “Family Precepts of Zhu Xi.” These precepts were meant to be read and memorized by all, regardless of age or gender. Many elderly residents in Ganzhou can still recite this “New Southern Jiangxi Family Precepts” to this day. In Jiang Jingguo’s bedroom, the desk on display is the original one he used, donated in 1997 by his driver. In his children’s bedroom, the main exhibits include historical documents, photographs, and objects related to Mr. Jiang Jingguo.

In 2007, the cultural relics department of Ganzhou City organized a construction team to carry out a comprehensive renovation of Jiang Jingguo’s Former Residence. Following the principle of “restoring the old as it was” and aiming to recover its historical appearance, the cement floor inside was restored to its original wooden flooring, the exterior walls were repainted, the doors and windows were refinished, and the entire building underwent thorough waterproofing and moisture-proof treatment.
