Deng Family Ancestral House

This ancient residence is called Deng Family Ancestral House, also known as Deng Family Enclosed House. Originally named Lisan Hall, its history dates back to the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, a merchant named Deng Xun, along with his elders, migrated from Jiaying Prefecture in Guangdong (now Meizhou) to Baitian Village in Fenyi. He made his fortune trading in oil along both banks of the Yuan River, then settled in Shangmu Village, where he built this Hakka-style ancestral house. Construction began in the mid-Qianlong period and took sixteen years to complete, finishing in the tenth year of the Jiaqing reign (1805). The house covers an area of about fifteen to sixteen acres, surrounded by brick walls. It is said to have 99 rooms and, from the outside, resembles a circular defensive fortress. Today, it is home to around 100 residents, all from the same family.

The Qing Dynasty-era Gujia Grand House, located in Shangmu Village, Huzhe Town, Fenyi County, is a historic architectural complex over 200 years old. Its unique architectural style, grand scale, and well-preserved artistic carvings demonstrate significant cultural, historical, and artistic research value. It is a large-scale regional traditional residence. The entire structure exhibits the classic style of a Guangdong Hakka earthen building, perfectly integrated with local traditional architectural features. Transportation: Fenyi–Huzhe bus.
