Dagang Mountain is an extension of the Wugong Mountain range, stretching from Yichun in a west-to-east direction. The Jiangxi Dagang Mountain Forestry Science Experimental Bureau (headquartered in Fen Yi County) is a subtropical forestry research and experimentation center in southern China, as well as a comprehensive forestry science experimental base focused primarily on intermediate trials. It currently employs over a thousand staff members. Its operational guideline is to prioritize forestry research, integrate research with production, and pursue a path that combines forestry, industry, and commerce, gradually establishing an integrated management system for the production, processing, and distribution of forestry by-products. Through scientific experiments at its bases, the bureau aims to significantly increase the growth and oil yield of timber and economic forests—mainly fir, pine, moso bamboo, and oil tea—in southern China’s forested regions, improve the utilization rate of forestry resources, establish a scientific system for the rational management of these resources, and serve as a model for promoting the development of forestry in southern China. The forestry experimental bases of the bureau are all located in Dagang Mountain (within the Fen Yi jurisdiction, near Shuitangshanxia, there is also a “tree garden” covering over 3,000 mu, where subtropical premium tree species are introduced and cultivated to provide scientific support for forestry development—it is a key research base of the bureau). The area is divided into five experimental forest farms: Nianzhu, Changbu, Shangcun, Jiangxia, and Shanjia, with a total forested area of over 135,000 mu. It borders Yichun to the west, Anfu to the south, connects to Songshan and Dagang Mountain in Fen Yi to the east, and lies adjacent to the Jiangkou Reservoir to the north, forming a crescent shape.

The Nianzhu Experimental Forest Farm covers a forested area of over 16,000 mu. The main peak of Dagang Mountain, also known as the Second Peak (it is called the Second Yang Peak, likely because it neighbors the Yang Mountain in Hongjiang Township, Yichun; with an elevation of over 1,300 meters, it is slightly lower than Yang Mountain, hence the name Second Yang), stands at an altitude of 1,092.18 meters and is located here. Guanyin Rock is situated on the mountainside to the east of this peak, at an elevation of over 700 meters. Between Guanyin Rock and the Second Yang Peak lies a natural forest of over 1,200 mu, where rare birds and animals roam—this is the bureau’s nature reserve.
