She County Changsheng Temple

She County Changsheng Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Handan City.

Changsheng Temple is located within the Changsheng Temple Scenic Area in Zhangtou Village, Hezhang Township. It was first built during the Ming Dynasty and is now a municipal-level cultural heritage site.

The temple has three courtyards, constructed along the contours of the mountain, each rising higher than the last, and lies peacefully at the bottom of a valley. The surrounding mountains are steep—so much so that a falling stone could hit the temple courtyard—and the hills are thickly forested, producing a rushing sound in the wind. Under the Buddha statue in the main hall of the rear courtyard is a well with a diameter of two fist-lengths. Whether water is drawn or not, the water level neither overflows nor runs low, and the water has a slightly sweet taste, known as "Longevity Water."

After examining all the inscriptions on the temple’s steles and tracing its origins, the exact dynasty of its construction remains unknown, though legend says it began in the Han Dynasty. Whether it grants longevity or not, years of wind and rain erosion have gradually caused its decline. Already modest in size, the temple suffered repeated damage during the Cultural Revolution, leaving behind only broken steles, crumbling walls, overgrown weeds, and damaged tiles.
