Nan Shaolin Temple at Qingyuan Mountain is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located at the eastern foot of Dongyue Mountain in the Qingyuan Mountain Scenic Area, it was originally named "Zhenguo East Zen Shaolin Temple." It is the earliest Buddhist temple in Quanzhou and one of the seven historically renowned "Shaolin Monasteries" in China. Legend has it that it was built by Zhikong, one of the "Thirteen Shaolin Warrior Monks" from the Shaolin Temple on Songshan Mountain during the early Tang Dynasty, after he came to Fujian. Covering an area of 500 acres, the temple rises with the mountain, boasts a massive scale, grand halls, flourishing incense, and a simple martial arts culture, gaining fame through its martial traditions. The Southern Shaolin Temple integrates Zen with martial arts and practices martial arts to cultivate Zen. Its profound depth stems from the unity of Zen and martial arts, having produced eminent monks and masters throughout the dynasties, earning widespread renown both in China and abroad. For thousands of years, the ancient temple has weathered many changes. Despite periods of rise and fall, its majestic presence remains. In front of the grand Mahavira Hall, two centuries-old banyan trees tower into the sky like motionless arhats. Standing by the railing, one’s mind becomes serene, with the entire urban area of Quanzhou stretching out before the eyes.
