Attraction Introduction

The Taoist Laojun statue is the largest Taoist stone carving in China. It is located in the main scenic area of Qingyuan Mountain Scenic Spot, Fengze District, Quanzhou City, and is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Laojun statue was carved during the Song Dynasty. According to the "Annals of Quanzhou Prefecture": “The stone figure was naturally formed, with only slight carving done by enthusiasts.” These few words add to its mystique. The statue stands 5.1 meters tall, 7.2 meters thick, and 7.3 meters wide, covering a ground area of 55 square meters. The figure wears a wind hat, with distinct brow lines, eyes gazing straight ahead, a prominent nose bridge, an earlobe that extends to the shoulder, flowing whiskers, and a smiling face. The left hand rests on the knee, while the right hand leans on a small table, with the index and little fingers slightly tilted forward as if ready to pluck something. With the green mountains forming a backdrop, the statue sits solemnly, enhancing the serene and secluded atmosphere of the mountain valley, seemingly detached from the mortal world. The detailed carvings of the head, forehead, eyes, beard, and mustache are particularly ingenious.
