Quanzhou Overseas Chinese History Museum

The Quanzhou Overseas Chinese History Museum is located at No. 732 Donghu Street in downtown Quanzhou. It is a museum primarily dedicated to showcasing the history of Quanzhou-born overseas Chinese emigrating abroad and their survival and development overseas, reflecting the main characteristics of the overseas Chinese community and their status and role in the development of human civilization. The museum began planning and preparation in 1982, established its preparatory committee in 1987, commenced construction in 1993, and was completed by the end of 1995.

The Quanzhou Overseas Chinese History Museum consists of one main building, one comprehensive building, and two auxiliary buildings in the front area. Since its establishment, the museum has successively launched two permanent exhibitions: the “History of Emigration” and “Quanzhou People in Nanyang.” The “History of Emigration” mainly displays the reasons, types, methods, processes, and impacts of Quanzhou-born overseas Chinese emigrating abroad during different historical periods since the Tang Dynasty. “Quanzhou People in Nanyang” depicts the history of Quanzhou people’s survival and development overseas, as well as the social changes and current situation of overseas Chinese communities from Quanzhou.
