Yuanyue Temple

Yuanyue Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

Yuanyue Temple is located in Guxin Town, She County. Originally named "Dragon King Temple," it was first built during the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the Qing Dynasty. The temple complex consists of the main hall, offering hall, theater stage, east and west side halls, and a rear-facing wing, arranged to face southeast from the northwest. It covers an area of 1,263.36 square meters and houses three stone stelae. The main hall is five bays wide and one bay deep with a front porch, featuring a single-eave hanging gable roof covered with clay tiles, and decorated with bracket sets on the front eaves. The offering hall is three bays wide and three bays deep, with a single-eave cross-hipped clay-tiled roof. Its eaves are adorned with five-cusp bracket sets, and the corner pillars are small octagonal stone columns inscribed with Qing Dynasty records. The beams, architraves, and bracket sets are all painted with colored designs.

The layout of Yuanyue Temple is relatively well-preserved. The architectural structure and style of the offering hall are rarely seen in this region, and the inscriptions on its stone pillars hold significant historical value. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the temple was used as a campus for a branch of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University.

On February 14, 2018, Yuanyue Temple was designated as part of the sixth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Hebei Province.
