Nanshan Tourist Scenic Area is one of the first batch of 187 national AAAA-level scenic spots in China. It is located in Mingxi County, Sanming City, and boasts beautiful scenery. The scenic area features ancient sites such as Nanshan Chan Temple, Xiangshui Nunnery, Lingyuan Taoist Temple, Wenfeng Pagoda, and Nanshan Ancient Culture Garden, all of which are thousand-year-old temples. These sacred sites have been revitalized and now present a renewed splendor. The complex of ancient buildings, including pavilions, corridors, towers, and the surrounding mountain forests and water systems, are built along the mountain slopes. They exhibit an elegant, rustic charm and present a magnificent and majestic landscape. The Nanshan Grand Buddha within the scenic area stands 38.66 meters tall and weighs 380 tons. This rare bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha in a seated position is considered the largest of its kind in the world. Beneath the lotus pedestal of the giant Buddha, there are the Merit Hall, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall, and the Buddhist History Museum.

The Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall displays 9,999 exquisitely crafted, lifelike bronze Buddha statues, forming a grand ensemble together with the colossal seated Buddha. The Buddhist History Museum showcases historical records of the rise and flourishing of Buddhist culture. It also exhibits dozens of cultural relics and Buddhist art treasures, including the relics of Sakyamuni Buddha. The Chinese Historical and Cultural Park presents Chinese history and culture along the timeline of Chinese dynasties, supplemented by auspicious cultural elements. Through architecture, text, images, and high-tech means, it aims to showcase China’s historical and cultural heritage as well as its auspicious traditions, meeting visitors’ desire to understand the development of ancient Chinese history and culture. To make this historical and cultural content more direct, vivid, and accessible to visitors, the park highlights auspicious culture—the most popular and engaging aspect—thereby providing an educational experience in patriotism, history, culture, and moral values in an enjoyable way.
