Jinyun Pavilion
Jinyun Pavilion
Jinyun Pavilion is located behind Cuiwei Mountain (Dabu Mountain) in the western part of the city. Originally called "Houshan Pavilion" or "Houmen Pavilion," it was built in the second year of the Linde era of the Tang Dynasty (665 AD). During the Song Dynasty, the county town was divided into fifteen wards, and the pavilion was named after the joint construction by the Zhouri and Dengyun wards. The structure faces southeast and sits northwest, grand and magnificent. Having stood for a thousand years, it has been renovated on various occasions. In the 23rd year of the Republic of China (1944), the grand hall was destroyed in war. In June 1985, eleven locals from Chengguan—Wu Xiquan, Zhang Qingqian, Chen Lianguang, Yan Jitang, Chen Yisen, Fu Maolin, Yu Zhanqing, Luo Yindi, Zhan Xiaoshu, Zhang Hequan, and Mao Chengqiu—jointly funded its reconstruction.
On September 19, 1986, the hall was completed. It features a "品"-shaped layout with a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, upturned eaves, and carved beams and painted phoenixes. The central hall is the Lingyan Hall, enshrining the Three Immortal Goddesses (centered on Goddess Ma, with Goddess Zhao on the left and Goddess Li on the right). The left hall is the Lingyan Pavilion, housing the Goddess Guanyin in her White-Robed form, while the right hall is the Lingyan Palace, dedicated to the Five Grains Deity Shennong. Each hall is accompanied by a square terrace pavilion. Below the central hall lies a courtyard (112 square meters) planted with exotic flowers and plants, vibrant and colorful, with seasonal blooms competing in beauty. At the front are an open terrace and the mountain gate, outside which stands a solitary ancient pine tree resembling a ceremonial umbrella.
To the left of the left hall are two side rooms serving as a dining room, kitchen, and dormitory, with a parking lot downstairs. The entire complex covers an area of over one thousand square meters, standing majestically and exuding splendor. Jinyun Pavilion is situated against a phoenix-shaped mountain, majestic and grand, with uniquely beautiful scenery and a serene landscape. Behind the pavilion stands the Phoenix Crown Rock, towering like a forest reaching the sky, while beneath one’s feet lies the Phoenix Beak Rock, a cliff hundreds of feet high. Looking ahead from the pavilion, one sees rugged peaks, a thousand officials bowing to the phoenix, lush pines and cypresses, and the blue sea and sky.
To reach Jinyun Pavilion from Pushan Road in Chengguan, there is a 1.5-kilometer mountain road, as well as over 800 stone steps winding upward. Along the way, there are numerous uniquely shaped pavilions and towers: the Mountain Gate Pavilion, Jinyun One Pavilion (Pai Pavilion), Jinyun Two Pavilion (Fan Pavilion), Feigan Pavilion (Square Pavilion), Jingguan Pavilion (Two-story Tower Pavilion), Jide Pavilion (Hexagonal Pavilion), Fengzui Pavilion (Fenced Pavilion), and Men Pavilion (Road Pavilion). To the left of Feigan Pavilion is the magnificent Lingyuan Courtyard. The mountain also features attractions such as the "Immortal's Footprint," "Immortal's Mountain Character," "Golden Scale Ancient Cave," and "Stone Mirror." It is an ideal destination for fitness hiking, pilgrimages, sightseeing, and leisure activities.
