Minhu National Water Conservancy Scenic Area

Minhu National Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national-level water conservancy scenic area.

Minhu is located in Banmian Township, Youxi County, adjacent to Datian County and Dehua County, about 51 kilometers from the county seat. Minhu is an artificial lake formed by the reservoir of the Jiemian Hydropower Station, which is one of the five largest hydropower stations in Fujian Province and the only large-scale leading hydropower station with multi-year regulation capabilities. The station has an installed capacity of 300,000 kilowatts, a total reservoir capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters, a water surface area of 36.7 square kilometers — the largest in the province — and a maximum width of 2.5 kilometers.

The planned total area of Minhu National Water Conservancy Scenic Area is 5,707 hectares, including 3,322 hectares of land area and 2,385 hectares of water area. The lakeshore features undulating mountains, scattered bays and islands, while the majestic dam stands firmly in the valley. Landmarks such as the Fujian Heart Landmark, Minhu Stele, and Minxin Park complement the beautiful lake and mountain scenery. The area offers a variety of activities including water sports, leisure, entertainment, as well as island and mountain exploration, making it a delightful destination for vacationing and sightseeing. The scenic area is divided into two major zones: “dynamic” for mass leisure and entertainment, and “static” for upscale conference, leisure, and wellness experiences. Based on the characteristics and functions of these two zones, the scenic area follows a master plan layout of “one village, one home, one garden, and seven zones”: the leisure fishing village, the happy farmhouse, the Minxin Garden, and the seven zones comprising the water conservancy science education zone, management service zone, water recreation zone, wilderness survival club, high-end conference reception center, health and recuperation resort center, and water sports training base — creating a distinctive spatial layout and functional zoning.

In August 2009, Minhu was officially awarded the title of “National Water Conservancy Scenic Area” by the Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources, becoming the second scenic area in Sanming City to receive this honor after Yong’an City’s Taoyuan Cave National Water Conservancy Scenic Area, and the sixth in Fujian Province. On October 15, 2010, the Minhu National Water Conservancy Scenic Area was officially inaugurated, followed by the establishment of the first base of the Cross-Strait Self-Driving Tour Alliance in Fujian and the Fujian Canoeing Project Training Base.
