Dafutun Residential Complex

The Dafutun Residential Complex is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Dafutun Residential Complex is located in Pingzhai Village, Zhongxian Town, Youxi County, dating back to the Qing Dynasty.

Introduction: Constructed between the ninth year of the Tongzhi era and the eleventh year of the Guangxu era (1870–1885), the complex faces south and has a winding layout. It consists of a front path, watchtower-style corner towers, the main house, wing rooms, four layers of enclosed side houses, a study hall, study rooms, corridors, granaries, livestock pens, toilets, and a construction workshop; in total, it includes one study hall, one workshop, three watchtower-style corner towers, eighteen halls, 262 rooms, and covers a construction area of 7,200 square meters. The main house is five bays wide and seven columns deep, featuring a post-and-lintel and Dougong-style beam framework with a flush gable roof. This residence is a large-scale defensive vernacular building that combines elements of both a traditional home and a fortified structure.

In 2013, the Dafutun Residential Complex was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected Area: To the east, it extends to the mountain range running north-south; to the south, to the northern bank of the mountain-field terraces; to the west, to the edge of the village road; and to the north, to the southern edge of the rear hill.
