Location: Situated in Huaqiao Township, Songxi County, Nanping City, Fujian Province

Scenic Area Introduction:

Formed by the convergence of eight streams, Wanlin Lake is a serene and picturesque man-made lake covering a water area of 2 square kilometers. With excellent water quality and fresh air, the lake is navigable for 11 kilometers. Lush forests line both banks, and valleys and ridges intertwine as the river winds through the mountains. In the upper reaches of Wanlin Lake, from Zhao Shajia to Xiadun Village, the area features "Danxia landform" — rugged rock formations and unique peaks and caves scattered across a 5-square-kilometer region, all formed through the weathering and erosion of purple conglomerate rocks. Notable formations include Lion Rock, Buddha Head Rock, Twin Peaks (resembling breasts), Golden Hairpin Split, Turtle Mountain, Butcher Ox Cave, and Elder Cave, presenting a stunning landscape of emerald waters against red cliffs. From Xialing Bridge to Batou, the route features thirteen bends and eighteen turns, with turns within turns, creating a winding, secluded path that often offers delightful sights such as carp splashing in the waves, startled waterfowl taking flight, and mandarin ducks playing in the water.

Huaqiao Township: Located in the northwest of Songxi County, approximately 20 kilometers from the county seat. It gets its name from a bridge called Huaziqiao (Flower Child Bridge) over a small stream. During the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Qingyuanli. In the early years of the People’s Republic of China, Huaqiao District was established, which became Huaqiao Commune in 1958 and was restructured as Huaqiao Township in 1984. The township governs 12 village committees and 88 villager groups, with a population of nearly 14,400. Covering an area of 17.8 square kilometers, it includes 226,000 mu of mountainous land, 15,614 mu of arable land, and 138,200 mu of forested land. Mineral resources include granite, fluorite, kaolin, and iron. Local produce includes rice, tea, oil tea, and pine resin. The Shoukeng Fluorite Mine is among the area’s resources.
