Duliu Wooden Bridge

Duliu Wooden Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Tianjin Municipality.

The only old wooden bridge on the canal: Duliu Wooden Bridge

This bridge is situated on Xingye Street in Duliu Town, Jinghai District, and is the only old wooden bridge on the canal. Elderly locals recall that decades ago, the South Canal was a broad waterway bustling with daily boat traffic, which contributed to the liveliness of Duliu Town. Constructed during the Republican period, the bridge is 31.8 meters long and 5 meters wide, with a wooden structure. It features 19 guardrails on both sides, all made of yellow pine. The bridge deck is paved with asphalt and supported by five piers underneath. Due to age, weathering, and erosion, the wood has started to decay. The guardrails were originally painted green and have recently been restored.

The old bridge can no longer support heavy vehicle traffic and is now closed to vehicles, with only occasional pedestrians walking across. Staff from the Municipal Cultural Relics Management Center note that Duliu Wooden Bridge is part of the Grand Canal heritage and also represents an important category of local traditional architecture preserved in the city. It has been included in the fourth batch of cultural heritage sites protected by Tianjin Municipality.
