Jianxi

Jianxi Jianxi is the largest river in Jian'ou City and a major tributary of the Min River. It originates from the northern ends of Pucheng and Chongan, branching into the Nanpu Stream and Chongyang Stream. The two streams converge at Changyuan Village near Shanbian in Xudun Town, from which point it is called the Jianxi. Flowing from north to south, it passes through Yefang, Xudun, and Beijin in Xudun Town before joining the Songxi River in Zhicheng Town. It then continues through Qilijie and Sanmen in Zhicheng Town, as well as Baishuiyuan, Luku, Taiping, Baisha, Xinjian, Nanya, Xincun, Xiaoya, and Fangcun in Nanya Town, entering Dahuang in Nanping City, where it joins the Min River. Its discharge accounts for one-third of the Min River’s total flow. Within its basin, there are 111 tributaries over 5 kilometers long; those with a drainage area exceeding 100 square kilometers include the Chongyang Stream, Nanpu Stream, Songxi Stream, Dongbian Stream, Xiaosongxi Stream, Xiaoqiao Stream, Yushan Stream, and Gaoyang Stream. Those exceeding 50 square kilometers include the Wanshi Stream, Qin Stream, Yan’an Stream, Meicun Stream, and Jirui Stream.

The rivers in Jian'ou City mainly belong to the Jianxi basin of the Min River, forming a well-developed grid-like water system. Most flow in a northeast to southwest direction. The multi-year average water level is 90.91 meters. Large rivers have a usable drop of 3.5 to 18 meters, while smaller streams range from 102 to 420 meters. There are 131 rivers over 5 kilometers long within the city, with a total length of 1,569.2 kilometers; 51 of these are over 10 kilometers long, totaling 1,079 kilometers. There are 26 rivers with a drainage area exceeding 50 square kilometers; 15 exceed 100 square kilometers; and 3 exceed 1,000 square kilometers — namely the Jianxi, Chongyang Stream, Nanpu Stream, and Songxi. The total length of rivers within the city is 161.6 kilometers. The theoretical hydropower reserves of the entire city amount to 570,000 kilowatts.
