Former Site of the Minbei Provisional Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Jian'ou

The Former Site of the Minbei Provisional Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Jian'ou is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The Minbei Provisional Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (abbreviated as the Minbei Provisional Committee) was an early leadership body of the Communist Party organization in northern Fujian, leading the revolutionary struggles in Fuzhou and the Minbei region.

In April 1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched the “April 12th” counter-revolutionary coup, arresting and massacring Communists and revolutionary masses on a large scale, throwing the country into darkness, and the Great Revolution movement was at a low ebb. The situation in Minbei was the same as across the country—workers’ and peasants’ movements were suppressed, and Party organizations were forced to go underground.

Given the severe damage suffered by the Party organization in Fujian, in July 1927, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party sent Chen Zhaoli to Fujian to restore and develop the workers’ and peasants’ movements. By the end of the month, Chen Zhaoli, together with Xu Lujun, arrived in Chong’an and established the Special Branch of the CCP in Chong’an. In August, they arrived in Jian'ou, connected with Ge Yuexi, Ji Yongsui, and others, and under the leadership of Chen Zhaoli, in accordance with the Central Committee’s directive to “temporarily divide Fujian Province into southern and northern regions,” the Minbei Provisional Committee was established, directly under the leadership of the Central Committee, with Chen Zhaoli as secretary. Soon after, the Fuzhou Office of the Minbei Provisional Committee was also set up. The Minbei and Minnan Provisional Committees, following directives from the Central Committee, merged to form the Provisional Provincial Committee of Fujian. Leaders of the Minbei Provisional Committee assumed leadership roles within the Provincial Provisional Committee, and the work of the Minbei Provisional Committee was taken over by the newly established Jian’an Special Committee.

The former site of the Minbei Provisional Committee is located at Xuwuli in Jian'ou’s urban area. In April 1993, it was designated as a key cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province by the People's Government of Fujian Province. In June 1996, it was further recognized as a Minbei Patriotic Education Base by the People's Government of Nanping City.

Zhishan Subdistrict: Zhishan Subdistrict is located to the north of Jian'ou City, Fujian Province. In May 1996, the Zhishan Subdistrict Office was officially established. It administers three villages—Xidà, Haodòng, and Mǎwèn—and ten neighborhood committees: Fúshān, Línjiāng, Guǎnpú, Shàngxīhé, Dūyùpíng, Yáncāng, Líshān, Xiànqián, Cháomíng, and Qīngyún. It includes 29 villager groups, 135 resident groups, 16,553 households, and a population of 45,179, among which 7,051 are agricultural residents living in 2,161 households.
