China Root Art City was invested and built by Jian’ou Lvyun Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. in late 2007. With a total construction area of 45,000 square meters, the overall plan follows a “one core, one belt, one area, multiple nodes” layout. Three zones have been completed: Craftsmen’s Garden, Yefang Post, and Changting Residence. Together, they resemble a lush bamboo leaf, facing “Guizong Rock” and “Dami Rock”—both known as the “Little Wuyi”—across the lake; to the east lies the Jianxi River (Beijin Lake); to the west is the verdant Niulie Ridge and nearby “Gemstone Rock”; to the north is “Mei Rock,” where the site of the historic “Pingshan Academy” is located. The “Root Carving Art Association,” established in the early 1990s and renamed the “Root Carving Art Society” after 2000, boasts 49 senior artisans including National Root Art Masters and Senior Craft Artists. There are now over 200 root carving production enterprises in Jian’ou, integrating raw material collection, production, processing, transportation, and sales. The industry has gradually developed toward scaled and industrialized production. Sales outlets for Jian’ou root carvings can be found in major cities across China, and the products are exported to Europe, America, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
