Moshan Scenic Area

Moshan in Mingguang City, the birthplace of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, and the birthplace of Ming culture. In 1328, Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, was born in Moshan, Mingguang. The city of Mingguang was also named by the emperor after his ascension to the throne. Located 4 kilometers north of Mingguang City, Moshan has long been known as the “Hometown of Emperors” and the “Village of Spiritual Traces.” Historically, it was a sacred site for mountain worship and Buddhist prayers for blessings. Moshan Village boasts abundant natural tourism resources, including the 2,000-acre picturesque Yuelong Lake; Moshan Temple, the birthplace of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, along with the mysterious legend of the emperor’s birth, where ancient trees over 600 years old bear witness to history and past glory; there is also the legendary Nappies Beach, where it is said Zhu Yuanzhang’s mother dried his swaddling clothes, and mythical sites such as Erlang Temple and Yuelong Hill. The beautiful natural surroundings and intriguing legends create a fascinating allure that draws countless springtime visitors. Moshan’s ecological orchards and unique rocks on the mountain further enrich the joy and imagination of travelers. The development of Moshan eco-tourism and leisure projects will be elevated by the profound cultural heritage of the Ming Dynasty, adhering to sustainable development principles, and striving to build Moshan into an eco-tourism and leisure base themed around “culture, countryside, and ecology.”

I. Yuelong Ridge

Located in Zhaofu Village, Mingguang Subdistrict, it lies to the south of Longmiao Mountain, backed by Moshan, east of Dongfeng Lake, and west of the Chi River. This is the birthplace of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang.

II. Nappies Beach

Situated by Dongfeng Lake, covering an area of about 500 square meters, it is recorded as the place where Zhu Yuanzhang’s mother dried his swaddling clothes.

III. Moshan

Located 5 kilometers northwest of Mingguang City, it spans over 6,000 acres, with an elevation of 81.6 meters, stretching approximately 5 kilometers in length and 1.5 meters in width from north to south. Moshan is rich in tourism resources. At the foot of the mountain lies the picturesque Mingguang Lake (about 2,000 acres); on the mountain are the bustling Moshan Temple, ancient wells from the Ming Dynasty, weathered ancient trees, and several hundred acres of peach orchards.

IV. Moshan Temple

Historically a sacred site for mountain worship and Buddhist prayers for blessings, ancient trees over 600 years old bear witness to its history and former glory. The ancient temple was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. To develop Moshan’s resources, Mingguang City restored Moshan Temple according to its original design, rebuilding the halls and recasting the statues. Since the revival of the temple fair in 2006, over 20,000 worshippers visit on the festival day each year, and daily visitors to Moshan continue to flock in an endless stream.

V. Lotus Flowers at Jiaocheng Weir

Located in Shanliu, Daixiang Village, Suixiang Town, it covers a water surface area of more than 3,500 acres. The annual total yield exceeds 10 million jin, with a total output value of over 25 million yuan. The lotus flowers are exceptionally vibrant in summer. During peak summer, the lotuses of Jiaocheng Weir bloom throughout the area—the white ones pure and unblemished, the pink ones delicate and gorgeous; the lotus stems stand tall and graceful, while the leaves are elegantly charming. Stepping into the lotus pond, the fragrance of the blossoms fills the air. In the scorching summer heat, being there offers a refreshing, serene, and tranquil experience.
