Mingguang Floating Mountain
Floating Mountain
Also known as Linhuai Mountain or Floating Jade Mountain. According to the "Taiping Huanyu Ji": "Linhuai Mountain overlooks the long Huai River. Beneath the mountain there is a water cave; when the Huai River floods, the cave rises; when the water recedes, the cave sinks. It appears as if the mountain is floating, hence it is also called Floating Mountain." At the foot of the mountain lies an ancient ferry crossing on the Huai River, serving as a vital hub for land and water transportation, and a strategic military location contested by armies throughout history. The area boasts picturesque scenery, which has attracted literati and poets throughout the ages such as Bai Juyi, Li Shen, Su Shi, and Qin Guan to visit, admire the views, and compose poetry. Su Shi once wrote in his poem "Seven Quatrains of Haozhou · Floating Mountain Cave": "They say the cave is a dragon king’s palace, rising and falling with the tides, connected to the sea. Sitting together in a boat, how could one ever see it? Heaven and earth float on the water, the water floats in the sky." He also added a note: "The cave is located above the Huai River; summer floods cannot reach it, nor does it rise higher in winter, which is why people suspect it floats." Floating Mountain also features attractions such as the Immortal’s Cave, Fishing Terrace, Lotus Pond, Immortal Ox Hoof, Split Horse Crevice, Horse Drinking Pool, Wind and Wave Pavilion, Ying Shui Temple, Stone Turtle, and cliff inscriptions.
