Located within Pogang Township, the Pogang Ruins are an early Neolithic site, covering an area of approximately 20,000 square meters. In 1953, during the Pogang River Diversion Project, 378 artifacts from various ancient periods were excavated. These include objects made of pottery, porcelain, bronze, iron, stone, and jade, as well as Shang Dynasty bronze ware such as jue, gu, jia, and lei; Han Dynasty pottery items like pots, tripods, and fang; and Song Dynasty porcelain bowls and bronze mirrors. In addition, two complete stone axes over two thousand years old were discovered. Pogang Township is known as the “Number One Ginkgo Township in Anhui.” It currently has 11,000 acres of ginkgo plantations, with 21.7 million trees, including one tree over 100 years old, more than 160 trees over 50 years old, and 20,000 trees with a diameter of over 15 cm. There are also 7,000 acres of ginkgo leaf cultivation areas, producing 3,000 tons of fresh leaves annually, with the total annual production of fresh ginkgo leaves in the township reaching up to 7,000 tons. The annual sales revenue from saplings, leaves, fruits, and processed products amounts to over 10 million yuan.

Pogang Township: “Golden Pogang, Silver Daiyang, Prosperous Dayu Lane Forever.” This popular ancient folk rhyme vividly illustrates that these towns along the Huai River are beautiful and prosperous land of fish and rice. The “Golden Pogang” mentioned in the rhyme refers to today’s Pogang Township, hailed as the “Number One Ginkgo Township in Anhui.” The township is situated at the junction of three counties (Sihong, Wuhe, and Xuyi) across Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, surrounded by the Huai River and the new Huaihong River, encircled by water on all sides.
