Tomb of Lian Po

The Tomb of Lian Po is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Tomb of Lian Po is located on the southwestern slope of Fangniu Mountain in Jijiaying, Bagong Mountain, Shou County—commonly known as "Pogudui." It lies about 7.5 kilometers from the county town. The ancient mound is approximately 20 meters high and 30 meters in circumference, with a base constructed of flagstone. Backed by mountains to the east and facing the plains to the west, the Huai River is just a li or so away. Today, it is a popular tourist destination.

Lian Po (circa 305–230 BCE) was a native of Kuoxing (present-day Xingyi, Dingzhou) in the State of Zhao. In the 16th year of King Huiwen of Zhao’s reign (283 BCE), Lian Po led troops in an attack against Qi, achieving a major victory over the Qi army and was appointed as Senior Minister. He subsequently defeated the forces of Qi, Wei, and other states multiple times, gaining a reputation for bravery and military prowess among the feudal lords. At the meeting in Mianchi (west of present-day Mianchi County, Henan), the King of Qin attempted to humiliate the King of Zhao, but Lin Xiangru, with great wisdom and courage, thwarted the scheme. As a result, Lin Xiangru was also appointed as Senior Minister, outranking Lian Po. Feeling resentful, Lian Po tried several times to insult Lin Xiangru, but Lin, placing national interests above personal pride, continually yielded. Eventually, Lian Po was moved and personally visited Lin Xiangru to offer a humble apology, wearing thorns as a gesture of remorse.
