Luzhen Township is situated in the southwestern mountainous area of Shucheng County, adjacent to Tongcheng City and Qianshan County, and neighboring Hexiang Town, Xiaotian Town, Chengchong Township, and Yanchun Township within the county. Major provincial routes such as Ma’an Road (Mahekou–Ancai) and county roads such as Luzhong Road (Luzhen–Zhongyi) traverse the area, forming the main transportation arteries. The headwaters of the upstream Hepeng River are located at Yaocui Village’s Ergujian Peak (elevation 950 meters) and Ancai Village’s Wangdaoren Tomb, while Zhangchong Village’s Huayan Mountain, at an elevation of 1,062 meters, is the second highest peak in the county.

The terrain within Luzhen Township is complex, characterized by undulating mountains and interlacing peaks, with elevations ranging from 110m to 1,000m. The area mainly consists of grey biotite-bearing K-feldspar gneiss from the Luzhen Pass Group, metamorphic basic igneous rocks, and silty loam soils. The eclogite found in Ancai Village represents a unique geological feature of the Dabie Mountains, holding significant scientific research value.

Luzhen Township boasts a variety of scenic spots including Hundred-Zhang Rock Waterfall, Huangshiyan Waterfall, Sanlongjing, Huayan Mountain, Ergujian, Tongguan Bridge, Chessboard Stone, Immortal’s Cave, Huangdaoren Tomb, Immortal Character Rock, and Gaomiao. The legends surrounding the Lao Guanling Boundary Marker are captivating, and the air-raid shelters of Provincial Civil Air Defense Project No. 1 and Provincial Public Security Department Project No. 2 maintain a spring-like climate all year round. The small town has attained a considerable scale with comprehensive facilities and convenient transportation.

Luzhen Township features a subtropical humid monsoon climate with distinct seasons — cold and dry winters, and hot, rainy summers. The average annual temperature is 13.6°C, with January averaging 1°C and July averaging 25°C. The extreme maximum temperature reaches 40.5°C, while the minimum average temperature is -16.3°C.

The terrain is complex, with rolling mountains and interwoven peaks, and elevations ranging from 110m to 1,000m. The main cash crops include oil tea, tea leaves, chestnuts, bamboo, and pine-spruce trees. The township is rich in resources, picturesque, peaceful, and home to a simple and honest folk culture, along with a glorious revolutionary history and profound cultural heritage. Four major agricultural bases have been established for oil tea, chestnuts, tea, and medicinal herbs, with abundant resources in pine, spruce, bamboo, hydropower, wild vegetables, and wildlife. Products such as the “Ten Thousand Buddha Lake” brand Gynostemma pentaphyllum, Jiangshan Dahé Persimmons, and the “Longshu” brand stone materials are popular both within and outside the province.

Luzhen Township: Originally comprising Luzhen Township and Hongmiao Township, in 2004, following provincial, municipal, and county administrative adjustments, Luzhen and Hongmiao were merged into a single Luzhen Township, with Hongmiao fully incorporated. Subsequently, Ducun was fully integrated into Luzhen Village, and Shijian Village was fully merged into Heping Village. The reorganized Luzhen Township now governs 13 administrative villages, 279 villager groups, a total population of 18,790, and covers an area of 131 square kilometers.
