Hengshan Stone Gate

Stone carvings from the Tang to Qing dynasties, located on the short cliff of Hengshan Mountain, north of Xiangyang Reservoir, in Liushan Administrative Village, Xinshi Town, Dangtu County, Ma'anshan City, approximately 35 kilometers east of the county town, covering a total area of over 300 square meters. According to the *Taiping Prefecture Records*, the Stone Gate is described as “rocks of unusual shape with winding caves, hence the name Stone Gate.” Looking at Hengshan from afar, two natural rock walls stand side by side, resembling a grand gate. The one on the left remains intact while the right one has been damaged. The left rock wall bears the inscription “Stone Gate,” with characters spanning 1.2 meters in height and 2.1 meters in width. The inscribed date is blurred due to age, but records indicate it dates back to the Tang dynasty.
