Glazed Tile Kiln Site

The Glazed Tile Kiln Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Anhui Province.

The Glazed Tile Kiln Site is divided into northern and southern sections, facing each other across the Guxi River, with a total site area of about 5,000 square meters. The southern kiln is located south of the Guxi River at the eastern foot of Qing Mountain, covering an area of 35,000 square meters. To its west is a modern kiln factory, and there is evidence of soil extraction in the western part. The southern kiln site originally produced glazed products. Collected samples from the site include roof tiles, tubular tiles, and ridge ornaments, with glaze colors such as red, yellow, and green. The tubular tiles bear stamps ranging from “Wanzi No. 1” to “Wanzi No. 19,” along with the names of inspectors, colorists, and kiln supervisors. The northern kiln is situated within Wuma Village on the north side of the Guxi River, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, and originally produced city bricks stamped with the regular script characters “Taiping” and “Dangtu.” These kilns were used in the construction of the imperial mausoleum in the Central Capital of Fengyang. This site provides valuable research material on Ming Dynasty kiln firing techniques and the construction of the Central Capital imperial mausoleum.

(1) Southern Kiln.

Protected Area: 50 meters to the south, west, and north, and 30 meters to the east beyond the main structure.

Construction Control Zone: 30 meters beyond the protected area in all directions — east, south, west, and north.

(2) Western Part of Northern Kiln.

Protected Area: 5 meters beyond the main structure.

Construction Control Zone: 25 meters around the protected area.

(3) Eastern Part of Northern Kiln.

Protected Area: 15 meters to the east and west, and 90 meters to the south and north beyond the main structure.

Construction Control Zone: 30 meters beyond the protected area in all directions — east, south, west, and north.

Huhe Town: Huhe Town is located on the northern side of the Dagongwei — the foremost polder in southern Anhui — in Dangtu County. It lies north along the Guxi River, borders Shiqiao Town to the south, faces Dalong Township to the east, and adjoins Taibai Town to the west. It nestles close to the eastern foothills of Daqingshan Mountain, where the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai spent his final years. The local terrain is complex, featuring both mountains and polders. Huhe Town administers six village committees and one neighborhood committee, covering a total area of 84 square kilometers, with 0.36 million hectares of arable land, 0.06 million hectares of water area, and a total population of 32,000, including 29,000 rural residents.
