Wuyuan Mountain

Wuyuan Mountain Scenic Area. Centered around the main peak of Wuyuan Mountain, it includes the Wuyuan Mountain peak, the ruins of the Zixu Temple, the ruins of the Wu Xiang Ancestral Hall, ancient wells, the Wuya Forest Farm in Gangnan Township, horse trails, wildlife, shrubbery, and more. It is located 30 kilometers from the county seat. Many ancient stories about Wu Zixu (Wuyuan) arriving in Langxi took place here, making it rich in cultural and historical landscapes.

One of the ancient "Eight Scenic Spots of Langxi County," known as "Emerald Peaks of Wuya," is located within the scenic area. Due to Wu Zixu’s connection with this mountain, there is also the beautiful sight of "mountain hues thick with mist, emerald hues flowing like water," naturally endowing the place with a spirit of distinction. According to the county annals, since the Tang and Song dynasties, literati, scholars, and high-ranking officials from all over have visited this mountain to admire the view and compose poetry. For example, Zong Xi, the Left Provincial Administration Commissioner of Guizhou during the Ming Dynasty, wrote a poem titled “Climbing Wuya Mountain”: “Alone I ride my sedan up Wuya Mountain high, / Where ancient trees and vines have stood for centuries nigh. / The sun glints on cascading waters, flashing before my eyes, / While clouds steam up cliffs that pierce the azure skies. / Men gaze in awe as birds skim past, then disappear from sight, / And paths twist like sheep guts, broken yet linked in flight. / The Eastern Sea seems just a stone’s throw away, / So near that I could take a raft and ask the immortals to stay.”
