Langxi Mopan Mountain Site
The Langxi Mopan Mountain Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.
The Mopan Mountain Site is located in Xinfacun Village, Xingfu Township, Langxi County, Anhui Province.
The Mopan Mountain Site was discovered in 1981, when stone tools and pottery shards were collected, leading to its preliminary identification as an ancient human settlement covering an area of about 50,000 square meters. Artifacts found include rectangular and crescent-shaped single-hole stone knives, shovels, adzes, and chisels — all varying in size and shape. Pottery fragments display shapes such as fish-tail, duck-bill, cylindrical tripod legs, as well as gui feet, dou handles, and spinning whorls. There are also sand-tempered red pottery, clay red pottery, and black-glazed pottery, most of which are plain. The site has also produced stamped hard pottery from the Shang and Zhou periods, as well as proto-porcelain from the Warring States, Qin, and Han dynasties. Based on the forms and decorative patterns of unearthed relics, the site is believed to have been a settlement continuously inhabited from the late Neolithic period through the Shang and Zhou periods — spanning thousands of years — with the Liangzhu culture being the main cultural type.
The Mopan Mountain Site is rich in content and provides important clues for exploring the ancient cultural landscape of the Shuiyang River basin. It holds significant value for studying the ancient history of the Lan Chuan River basin and even southern Anhui.
Protected area: A 100-meter radius centered around the ancient beech tree at the top of Mopan Mountain.
