Baijia Mountain

Baijia Mountain, an extension of the Huangshan Mountain Range, has a main peak standing at 999 meters above sea level. It is located within Xuancheng District, about 20 kilometers from the city center, and covers a scenic area of 80 square kilometers. The *Ciyuan* (a renowned Chinese dictionary) describes it as having “deep valleys, winding peaks and rocks, and beautiful landscapes that rank first in the south of the Yangtze River.”

The area boasts stunning landscapes of mountains, rivers, and countryside. With its majestic peaks, secluded canyons, lush forests, rare wildlife, beautiful rivers, vast grasslands, blue lakes, and green fields, the scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, offering picturesque views everywhere. Attractions such as Baijia Jade Pool, Bell and Drum Pools, Chessboard Rock, Shuiyang River rafting, and horseback riding on the Southern Anhui Grassland have long been popular destinations for explorers and nature lovers. Together, they form a heavenly paradise and an earthly utopia.

The region also has a profound historical and cultural heritage. Mei Yaochen, a leading poet of the Northern Song Dynasty; Mei Wending, one of the world’s three most famous mathematicians in the 17th century; and Mei Qing, the founder of the Xin’an painting school — the “Three Meis,” all from the same family, lived here for generations, leaving a lasting influence both in China and abroad.
