Xuancheng Museum is a patriotic education base.

Xuancheng Museum was established in 1989 and is located in Fushan Square in the city center. It covers an area of approximately 4,760 square meters, with a total floor space of about 2,400 square meters. The building features a traditional Huizhou-style residential architectural design, with an ingenious layout consisting of a porch, central hall, rear building, and east-west corridors, along with a front courtyard and rear garden. With white walls, gray tiles, red railings, and floral lattice windows, the structure presents an elegant and classic appearance.

The museum currently houses a collection of over 6,300 cultural relics, among which the most distinctive are celadon ware from the Six Dynasties period and bronze mirrors from various eras. Four exquisite pieces of celadon — a stacked figurine jar, a spittoon, a spit bowl, and a frog-shaped water container — were selected in 1999 to participate in the "50 Years of Achievements in China’s Cultural Relics Endeavor" exhibition in Beijing. The stacked figurine jar, spittoon, and spit bowl were also included in the publication "National Treasures."

The museum currently has two permanent exhibitions: the "Xuancheng Historical Relics Exhibition" and the "Mei Wending Life and Achievements Exhibition," both of which are open to the public free of charge year-round. The "Xuancheng Historical Relics Exhibition" displays over 200 fine cultural relics from the collection, divided into five thematic sections: stoneware, pottery, porcelain, bronze and jade artifacts, and the Four Treasures of the Study (writing brush, ink stick, paper, and inkstone). Using images, models, and dioramas as supplementary elements, it vividly recreates Xuancheng's long history and splendid civilization. The "Mei Wending Life and Achievements Exhibition" was independently designed and produced by the museum, integrating images, display panels, dioramas, models, and physical objects. It comprehensively showcases Mei Wending’s academic journey, scholarly accomplishments, and his significant contributions to fields such as astronomy and mathematics. Additionally, to meet the diverse cultural needs of visitors and supplement the permanent exhibitions, the museum hosts or organizes around ten temporary exhibitions each year in various formats, including patriotic education photo exhibitions, science education specimen displays, national defense education model shows, as well as various calligraphy and painting exhibitions. These efforts continually enrich the content of the exhibitions. Since opening to the public free of charge on March 26, 2008, the museum has strictly adhered to the requirements of the relevant free admission policies, opening six days a week (closed on Mondays).
