Tomb of Liu Tingzao

The Tomb of Liu Tingzao is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Tomb of Liu Tingzao is located in Shuidong Town, Xuanzhou District, Xuancheng City, dating back to the Song Dynasty.

In 2019, the Tomb of Liu Tingzao was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People's Government of Anhui Province.

Liu Tingzao (1189–1261), courtesy name Kejian, also known as Shizhao or alternatively as Huaguo, and referred to as Xingguan Yi, was the fourth-generation descendant of the Liushan Liu family from Taishan in Lique Bridge, Xuancheng. The Taishan Liu family were descendants of the Zhongshan Liu clan, and the fifth-generation descendant of Liu Yuxi, Minister of Rites in the Tang Dynasty, named Zheng, settled in Lishui. His grandson Zai later moved to Maocheng in Gaochun. Zai had eight sons, the fifth of whom, Kuang, relocated to Taishan in Lique Bridge.

As a youth, Liu was intelligent and fond of discussing military strategy and chivalric tales. In the tenth year of the Jiading era (1217) during the reign of Emperor Ningzong of the Song Dynasty, he was selected as a Maocai (a type of scholar) and ranked first in the Jinshou Department. Shuidong Town: Located southeast of Xuancheng City, Shuidong Town is 29 kilometers from the city center. It covers a total area of 108.4 square kilometers and has a population of 32,000. Provincial Highway 104 runs directly through the town for 10 kilometers. It is 20 kilometers away from National Highway 318, the expressway, and Xuancheng–Hangzhou Railway, while the Wan'gan Railway lies to the west of the town. The Shuixiang River flows through the area, providing convenient transportation. As early as the Ming Dynasty, Shuidong Town gained fame for its abundant production of honey jujubes and thriving commerce, and it has since become a true “Hometown of Honey Jujubes in China” and a renowned industrial, commercial, and tourism town in the south of the Yangtze River.
