The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall at Nanhu

The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall at Nanhu is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Anhui Province.

The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall at Nanhu is located in Dazhang Natural Village, Nanhu Village, Likou Town, Xuanzhou District, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province.

The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall was first built in the early Ming Dynasty, and the current structures date from the Qing Dynasty. It is divided into a main hall and a secondary hall, both made of brick and wood. The main hall was constructed in the sixth year of the Kangxi reign (1667), while the secondary hall was built in the third year of the Guangxu reign (1877). The main hall has three courtyards and three bays, with a width of approximately 16 meters and a depth of about 32 meters. It features a flush gable roof and horse-head walls. The entrance is through an eight-character gate tower, flanked by a drum stone on each side. Inside, there are a porch hall, the Dunmu Hall, and the Ancestral Worship Hall, along with front and rear courtyards. The secondary hall is slightly set back inward, with a width of about 16.5 meters and a depth of about 31 meters. The front section serves as a porch, the middle section is divided with side rooms and corridors on both sides, and the rear section is the Ancestral Worship Hall. The entire structure is richly decorated with stone carvings, wood carvings, and brick carvings, all finely crafted and exquisitely painted. The Zhang Clan Ancestral Hall combines characteristics of Huizhou-style architecture with local cultural elements, making it of great significance for the study of ancient residential architectural styles in southern Anhui. In 2010, it was designated as a district-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Protected area: 10 meters east of the eastern wall, 10 meters south of the southern wall, 10 meters west of the western wall, and extending to Huangnitang Pond to the north.

Construction control zone: 10 meters beyond the protected area in all directions—east, south, west, and north.

Nanhu Village is located by the shore of Nan Yi Lake, backed by the foot of Kunshan Mountain, surrounded by water on three sides with a shoreline stretching 45 li. It connects to Jinfeng Village to the west and neighbors Dongyang Village to the east. The Xuannan Oil Road and Zhengli Cement Road run through the area, while the Zhengxin Cement Road links Dongyang to Zancun, and the Zhennan Cement Road leads directly to the shores of Nan Yi Lake. The village currently has 7,936 mu of arable land, 5,300 mu of mountainous land, and 800 mu of water surfaces. It administers 32 villager groups, with 1,590 households and a population of 5,665.
