Shuidong Flower-Opera Tower

The Shuidong Flower-Opera Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The Shuidong Flower-Opera Tower is located in Dongsheng Administrative Village, Shuidong Town, Xuanzhou District, Xuancheng City.

It is a typical example of ancient residential architecture in southern Anhui. Originally built during the Southern Song Dynasty, the tower was severely damaged by the end of the Qing Dynasty's Guangxu reign, prompting villagers to collectively renovate it. It underwent another restoration in the fifth year of the Republic of China. Also known as the Wannian Stage, the Flower-Opera Tower has a convex shape. Its front performance area features a single-eave hip-and-gable roof supported by raised beams, allowing performances to be viewed from three sides. The backstage has a flush gable roof. The stage structure is made of brick and wood, with a total of 16 pillars around it. The diagonal braces of the eaves are carved with opera stories and lion motifs. The stage base is 1.85 meters high, the stage is 12.7 meters wide, the front section is 4.4 meters deep, and the backstage is 5.1 meters deep. According to records, since the fourth year of the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi reign, plays such as Mulian and Sanqiang have been performed on this stage. Major performances were held every ten years and minor ones every five years, typically by professional troupes, often combined with lantern festivals and temple fairs.

Protected area: 26 meters east of the stage front, and 10 meters south, west, and north of the stage wall.

Construction control zone: 10 meters beyond the protected area in all directions—east, south, west, and north.

Dongsheng Village: Located 4 kilometers southeast of Shuidong Town, Xuanzhou District, Dongsheng Village borders Wangxi Town of Ningguo City and enjoys convenient transportation with a provincial road running through it. The village covers an area of 9.9 square kilometers, with a total land area of 14,838 mu, including 6,073 mu of arable land, 3,346 mu of mountainous land, and 182 mu of water surface. It administers 6 natural villages and 27 villager groups, with a current population of 3,150.
