Hanwu Cultural Ecological Park
Hanwu Cultural Ecological Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
The Zhongyang Hanwu Cultural Ecological Park Scenic Area is located in the urban area of Zhongyang County on the north bank of the Yangtze River, at the core of the Wanjiang City Cluster. It consists of scenic spots such as Qishan Mountain, Lotus Lake, Huang Zhen Library, and the Martyrs' Cemetery, and is now a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
Qishan Mountain, also known as Mushi Mountain, borders the Yangtze River to the south, overlooks Jiuhua Mountain, connects to Gengkuizhai Lake to the east, and is 30 kilometers away from the scenic area of Fushan Mountain to the north. Qishan Mountain guards a strategic point along the Yangtze River and offers stunning views of the riverbanks. During the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was the site of the Zongzi Kingdom. By the Warring States period, it had become a renowned pass and bustling trade hub along the Yangtze waterway. Historical records indicate that Emperor Qin Shi Huang once passed through this area during his southern tour and viewed the "Jike." In the fifth year of the Yuanshou era during Emperor Wu of Han’s reign, he conducted a southern inspection tour, personally shot a flood dragon in the river near here, emerged nearby, and composed the "Song of Shengtang and Zhongyang," in the same year establishing Zhongyang County. During the Three Kingdoms period, the famous Eastern Wu general Lü Meng built a fortress at the southern foot of Qishan Mountain to station troops and resist Cao Cao’s massive army of 800,000 advancing southward. During the 1949 Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign, Qishan Mountain served as one of the key launching points for the People's Liberation Army’s river crossing operations.
Lotus Lake, also called the Lotus Pond. According to the Annals of Anqing Prefecture, the Lotus Pond was the ancestral property of Fang Bao, a Grand Secretary during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, a great Qing prose writer, and one of the three founders of the Tongcheng School. From the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty onward, the Fang family of "Guilin Fang Clan" rapidly rose in prominence within China’s cultural circles, producing numerous talents. Notable figures included Fang Xuejian, Fang Yizhi, Fang Bao, Fang Dongmei, and nearly a hundred other cultural celebrities, forming one of China’s most distinctive and influential cultural families, hailed by scholars and experts as the "Second Greatest Cultural Noble House in China."
The Huang Zhen Library scenic spot is located on the northern side of the main Qishan scenic area and houses a collection of materials on notable historical figures from Zhongyang throughout the ages.
The Martyrs' Cemetery red tourism scenic spot is situated at the western foot of Mushi Mountain, where revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Crossing of the Yangtze River Campaign rest in peace.
The park highlights the historical development and cultural achievements of Zhongyang. The combination of mountain and water elements—where the ruggedness of the mountains complements the gentleness of the water—creates a mutually reinforcing landscape. This “city of mountain hues and half-city lakes” showcases a picturesque riverside cityscape, shaping the scenic brand of “Landscape Impressions, Cultural Zhongyang.” The area primarily embodies Hanwu culture and ecological tourism elements, making full use of existing natural ecological resources and cultural landscapes. It focuses on developing five major functional zones: natural scenery, recreational leisure, cultural activities, vacation retreats, and red tourism. The park integrates multiple functions such as leisure, entertainment, commerce, play, and sightseeing into one comprehensive cultural ecological tourism destination.
