Fang Yizhi’s Tomb

Fang Yizhi’s Tomb is a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

Fang Yizhi’s Tomb is located in Huisheng Village, Fushan Town, Zongyang County, Anqing City, Anhui Province, at the northern foot of Mount Fushan in the area known as Jinniu Jiaye on Baisha Ridge.

Fang Yizhi, courtesy name Mizi, was of Han ethnicity and came from Tongcheng County, Anqing Prefecture, Jiangnan (present-day Tongcheng, Anhui). He was a famous thinker, philosopher, and scientist of the Ming Dynasty. Born in the 39th year of the Wanli reign during the reign of Emperor Shenzong of Ming (Xinhai year, 1611) and died in the 25th year of the Yongli reign (Xinhai year, 1671), he lived to be 60 years old. A great-grandson of the literatus Fang Xuejian, he was one of the Four Gentlemen of the Late Ming (also known as the Four Gentlemen of the Fu Society or the Four Gentlemen of Jinling). Thanks to his profound family scholarly background, he drew from diverse sources and advocated for the integration of Chinese and Western knowledge, as well as the unification of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Throughout his life, he authored over four million characters of work, much of which has been lost. Dozens of his surviving works cover a wide range of subjects, including literature, history, philosophy, geography, medicine, and physics.

It faces Baihu and Xiangpu towns across the lake to the east, borders Huigong Township to the south, adjoins Yijin Town to the west, and neighbors Qianqiao Town to the north. The town enjoys a superior geographical location and convenient transportation. It is 30 kilometers from the county seat and 70 kilometers from the Anqing Development Zone and Anqing Port. The Fushan exit of the Hefei–Tongling–Huangshan Expressway runs through the town.
