Sheng's Flower Hall

Sheng's Flower Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Haishu District.

Sheng's Flower Hall is located at No. 1 and No. 5 Yujia Lane, Haishu District, Ningbo City. It is a Qing Dynasty building and was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit of Haishu District in December 1981. The main structure faces east and is situated to the west. The original owner of Sheng's Flower Hall was Lin Ting'ao, a scholar from the Tongzhi and Guangxu eras of the Qing Dynasty. The flower hall served as the study within his residence — the Jinxing Tower. Because of its upturned eaves and wing corners that made it resemble a giant ship from afar, it was also known as "Tinglu". Rockeries were piled up in front of the tower, and a pond was dug beside it, with fine plants such as green bamboo, banana trees, phoenix trees, and pine trees. Later, the residence came into the ownership of Sheng Bingwei, an educational commissioner of the Qing Dynasty, and the flower hall was used as his study room, commonly referred to as "Sheng's Flower Hall." This house provides good physical reference value for the study of Ningbo’s local history and the history of architectural development.
