In old China, the reformists advocated for changes to the imperial examination system. In the 23rd year of the Guangxu Emperor’s reign (1897), the "Talent Reserve School" was established — the predecessor of Ningbo Middle School. It was later renamed the "Ningbo Prefectural Middle School," then the "Zhejiang Fourth Middle School," and eventually the "Zhejiang Provincial Ningbo Middle School." It has a history of nearly a hundred years and was the highest institution of learning in Ningbo before liberation. Sun Yat-sen once personally visited the school to give a speech, during which he expressed hopes such as "revitalizing industry, improving water conservancy, and rectifying streets." In the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Party Central Committee sent key figures such as Yun Daiying, Luo Fangong, and Zhao Shiyan to work in Ningbo. In 1921, a group of important party members were developed in Ningbo. On the eve of the Great Revolution, this place was the cradle of revolution in eastern Zhejiang.

The former lecture hall where Sun Yat-sen spoke has been demolished, but a memorial stele now stands on the original site.

He was born into a farming family in Cuiheng Village, Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province. In his youth, he was influenced by the tradition of struggle among the people of Guangdong and admired the revolutionary cause of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. He was a pioneer of China’s modern nationalist democratic revolution, a great forerunner of China’s democratic revolution, the founder of the Republic of China and the Kuomintang, an advocate of the Three Principles of the People, and the creator of the "Five-Power Constitution." He was the first to raise the banner of complete opposition to feudalism... More detailed information about Sun Yat-sen++
