Ningbo Lin Residence

The Ningbo Lin Residence is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The residence faces south with its back to the north, situated west of Zijin Lane, backed by Sanzhi Street, close to Zhenming Road to the east, and adjacent to residential houses to the west. It is located at No. 30, Zijin Street, Haishu District. It was the home of the Lin brothers, Lin Zhongqiao and Lin Zhonghua, who were successful candidates in the imperial examination during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty. The entire residence faces south and covers a site area of 3,100 square meters, with a built-up area of 2,000 square meters. It consists of a main gate, screen wall, second gate, screen wall, sedan hall, front building, middle building, rear building, and is flanked by wing rooms. The gate tower, screen walls, and decorative walls feature exquisite carvings, with over 170 brick carvings, and more than 50 stone and wood carvings still preserved today. A small garden named "Orchid Pavilion" is located in the southwest corner of the residence, housing two stone rubbing tablets of the "Preface to the Orchid Pavilion" inscribed by Dong Qichang of the Ming Dynasty and annotated by Chen Jiru.

The Lin Residence is one of the most concentrated, exquisitely crafted, and content-rich examples of ancient carving art surviving in eastern Zhejiang. These precious carved artworks hold significant reference value for the study of carving art and architectural decorative art.
